Purpose

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Outstanding Troop Award is to build stronger troop program through diversified and quality activities. In order to do this, girl/adult planning will need to begin in the first part of the troop year. It will take all year to fulfill the requirements and do it well.

Guidelines for Eligibility

  1. In order to receive recognition at the May District Meeting, complete report forms and submit payment to the Service Center by April 30th, to the attention of your Field Director.
  2. Each activity can fulfill only one requirement which must have been accomplished during the current Girl Scout year.
  3. All activities used to meet requirements for the award may also be applied toward other badge, patch, sign or award requirements in GSUSA or Council Programs.

Requirements

1.  Troop Registration

    a.  Re-register Early Bird

    b.  Re-register 70% of girls assigned to the troop by October 1 deadline.

    c.  New troop register 4 weeks after initial meeting.

2.  Register and utilize a Troop Committee.  (Need to be able to state number of Committee members and ways they were involved.

3.  Participate in Council Cookie Sale.  (Daisy troops are exempt.)

4.  Participate in an activity with a sister troop or in a bridging ceremony with another troop.

5.  Plan and participate in two service projects.  (Have to describe).

6.  Submit on a regular basis, Community Service Project Report forms.

7.  Participate in an activity which promotes Pluralism.  (Such as "Talking with TJ", valuing differences of others.)

8.  New leaders take Orientation and Age Level Training within 6 months of their first meeting.  Experienced leaders attend one council training of their choice.  

9.  Leaders and girls share responsibility for the troop through girl/adult planning.  (Must give an example).

10. Troop participates in a District, Unit or Council sponsored event.  Must list event.

11. Plan and participate in at least one activity to make the community more aware of Girl Scouts at a time of year other than Girl Scout week.  Must describe.

12.  Membership extension. (Indicate one).

    a.  Register into troop at least one girl who was not a Hornet's nest Council member last year.

    b.  Participate in an organized Girl Scout Recruitment Night.   

13.  Participate in at least one activity to thank your sponsor.  Must give information concerning sponsor and activity.

14.  Include parents/guardians in at least 2 troop events or programs.   Must be able to list programs.

15.  Plan and participate in at least three of the following:

   a.  Investiture and/or Rededication Ceremony.

   b.  Two Flag Ceremonies.

   c.  Scouts Own Ceremony.

   d.  An outdoor and/or campfire ceremony.

16.  Submit Annual Troop Report and most recent copy of bank statement by April 30.
